Chandigarh : (zeeharyana.com/Sunita Sharma) Kiran Choudhry, Leader of the Haryana Congress Legislature Party, has branded the lacklustre Union Budget for 2018-19, presented to Parliament by the Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, today as anti-common man and anti-farmer which has failed to give the economy and job creation the desired push and direction. People’s hopes have been dashed to the ground.
In a statement issued here today, the former excise and taxation minister said long on tall talk and short on actual delivery, the Budget has done little to de-stress the distressed agrarian sector, lift manufacturing spirits and give job creation the much-needed boost. Worse still, it pays little attention to the economically backward sections of the country and gives very little relied to the salaried class.
Referring to the farmers, Choudhry said the promise to increase MSP to 1.5 times the cost of production meant nothing without stating the cost which the government had a tendency to understate. Increase in education cess will make several things costlier.
Jaitley has slipped on the fiscal road and failed to stick to three per cent target. The revised fiscal deficit for 2017-18 is Rs 5.95 lakh crore or 3.5% of GDP and he has projected deficit of 3.3% of GDP next fiscal which will give inflationary forces a push, she added.
