Faridabad : (zeeharyana.com) Glorifying the cutting edge of victory, Grand Columbus International School, Faridabad opened its most highly awaited Inter School Mini-Basketball and Volleyball District Tournament on 6th December, 2018, showcasing the talents of the students from various schools across the district. The grandeur of this event was truly unmatched in the city, and it became a spectacle to behold for all those witnessing it.
For the success of any grand undertaking, God’s grace is of utmost importance. To that end, God’s blessings were invoked with the Gayatri Mantra in the Assembly Hall. The programme commenced with the arrival of the Chief Guest, Mr. Bhim Singh, Arjuna Awardee in Aethletics & 1 st Gold medal receiver in Asian Games from Haryana; Guest of Honour, Subhash Sorayan, Director A.D. Senior Secondary School; Mr. Hardik Sorayan,
along with Principal Ms. Richa Puri, Vice Principal Ms. Gurjeet Sandhu, dignitaries from participating schools,
and sports officials.
It is said that flowers make all things beautiful. So to mark a beautiful beginning, the Principal greeted the Chief
Guest and the Guest of Honour with a floral welcome. The programme began on a high note with a well
orchestrated opening ceremony in the form of a cultural dance performance that filled the audience with zeal
and enthusiasm. The introductory speech was given by the Principal who, in light of the opening ceremony in
progress, stressed on the importance of sports and fitness in our society today. She added that true sportsman
spirit lay in participation rather than victory.
Next on schedule, Flag hoisting was conducted, followed by the oath taking ceremony. Mr. Subhash Sorayan
addressed the gathering thereafter, and he touched upon the importance of inter school sports meets. It was
followed by the speech of the Chief Guest Mr. Bhim Singh , who encouraged the participants from various
schools to give their best and display exemplary sportsmanship. He ended his speech by declaring the sports
While the Principal presented mementos to the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honor , the first round of
Volleyball and Mini-Basketball matches began. A total of 23 teams from the District had assembled to
participate in the Volleyball tournament while 10 teams each of boys and girls gathered to participate in the
Basketball tournament, making this a truly grand event. In total, 34 schools participated in the event.
At the time this report was being written, the teams had started dwelling each other in the preliminary rounds.
The tournament shall continue on 7 th December 2018 and the finalist will engage to achieve ultimate glory.
The activities of the day concluded with the vote of thanks by Vasudha and Tarundeep, the Cultural Prefects of
the school and a note from the Principal Ms. Richa Puri that “May the best team win”.
